Here we have the soon to be released VF-1S with Super & Strike Parts set, up for a hands on review. Yamato started off their new 1/60 scale line with Macross Zero Valkyries followed by Macross Plus Valks and now this summer they will re-introduce the classic Macross Valks to this line as well. We actually took this product sample along with us to Anime Expo 2008 to gauge collectors interest and the response was positive.?? Please note the VF-1S Weathering Special seen in the pictures below does not belong to Overdrive and we will not answer any questions about the item.
Yamato has jammed packed allot of stuff in a similar styled flip top window box similar to their 1/48 line only this time leaving no room for wasted space. Just about even inch inside the box is occupied by interchangeable parts. As you can see in these box comparison pictures the new packaging is a lot more space saver friendly. Standard contents are VF-1S decal sheet, Fast Pack decal sheet, instruction manual, taped to the back side of the cardboard tray. The insert trays are stackable, which well for the amount of accessories included. Additional accessories are an additional set of preset hands, Macross display stand adapters too for all three variable modes, and a new forearm mounting device that can be used with another 1/60 VF-1S’s removable cockpit. One thing I did find odd was that the gun pod did not have a strap. The gun pod does have the mounting holes for a strap but maybe the product samples were packed with out them. Fighter Mode: From the very second you have this Valk in your hands you know it feels allot more sturdy than a 1/48. You just want to toss on the missiles and run around the room going “SWOOSH, SWOOSH!” The new smaller scale really brings out a lot of the panel line details, and lots of tempo tampo printed markings all over the Valk. Gerwalk Mode:
The Gerwalk mode just looks absolutely gorgeous! The legs have lots of articulation for a mecha toy and it really gives it an authentic anime action look. Battroid Mode:
Finally the Battroid, and it’s as sturdy and solid as they come. The new head now has a pivoting neck, adjustable shoulders covers, and a newly designed elbow joint gives the the Valk more action pose freedom. Super & Strike parts :
The icing on the cake that simply seals the deal one purchasing this new set. The fast pack set is almost the same as the 1/48 fast pack set, the only difference is that the missiles are not removable. Yamato has simply out did themselves with this release.
This will be a report on a first Megahouse Business Show that was held on Friday July 11. Megahouse as part of the Bandai group is a toy company that makes everything from plush toys, cell phone straps to mecha toys. It may have been small but there were many new items to be seen. Lets start with the Blassreiter toys. For those who aren’t aware of the series it is one of the most pushed anime series of the year combining the considerable talents of animation studio Gonzo with that of multimedia studio Nitro Plus. It is officialy available on Youtube so if you like what you see here go check it out. Next up is the Moyashimon plush toys. For those who have never heard of it Moyashimon is a popular anime about a agricultural student who has a special power to see and comunicate with bacteria as well as other micro organisms. The plush toys seen here are some of the bacteria and microorganisms characters that are seen in the anime series.
Let us introduce you to Doara the hottest costumed character in Japan right now!! The mascot of the Chunichi Dragons a baseball team based in Nagoya he has gone far above being a average mascot and is so popular he has had his own DVD’s and photo books released. Next on the agenda for Doara will be this cute figure that will be released in Augest. Two color version will be released one a unform color worn at home games and the other the uniform version worn on the road. The Megahouse Perfect Piece series is next with two new models on display. The first one will be the White Armed Suit from the Ghost in the Shell series. Will come with the Yausoka Gayle figure. As you can see in the photo the cockpit will open and the figure can be loaded inside the Armed Suit. The second will be the Caramelman #1 used by Mashirito in the 80’s hit manga ”Dr. Slump”
Next is the Gundam items. There were two items displayed at the show. The first one will be the U.C. Pilot Colection featuring many of your favorites pilots like Amuro and Anavel Gato. The second will be the Cosmo Fleet Colection Part2 featuring many of the battleships seen in the anime. The Mospeada corner is next. As you can imagine the soon to be released Blowsperior was being displayed. As a surprise what seemed to look like the mail in weapon set for the ride armor was also on display. I can’t confirm it but that plastic thing besides the Blowsperior sure looks like it.
Code Geass Knightmare Frames and a lot of them are the next topic.
Next is probably the best selling bisyojo title in Japan at the present Queensblade. Originaly a combat picture book game the fact that many of characters were designed by Japan’s top illustraters has made it extreamly popular. So much so that most of the PVC figures of the series sell out in a matter of days making it one of the most sought after items on the market. To answer the demand for more items they are now releasing trading cards and other items and much much more.
On to cell phone strap section of the show.
Megahouse Excellent Model line of PVC figures are next. Lots of exciting stuff like a Macross Frontier Klan Klan figure and Gundam characters were on show. Capcom characters such as the ever popular Felicia from Darkstalkers were also on display.
Last but not least is the best selling One Piece character figure series. While it may not be the most popular thing oversees in Japan it is huge with this figure series routinely selling out.
